Tyranny Priced In?

You likely don’t gauge your economic future with economic charts, indicators, and theories. You don’t watch CNBC or Fox Business programs. You sit down at the kitchen table, go over the monthly bills, and see reality – there are forces at work driving prices up. So, when you heard Kamala Harris talk about “price controls” what did you think?

If on the Left and a Progressive, you might agree with the fiery rhetoric of politicians Kamala Harris, AOC, Liz Warren, et al. pronouncing corporations and grocers as “price gouging greedy bastards” and that they need to be controlled. You would be OK with government intervention.

If on the Right and a conservative, then you would balk at “price controls” talk. You want the government to be hands off knowing that when government gets involved a great imbalance is thrown into the market. You understand that politicians do not know how to solve inflation. They just create more problems with their fixes’, including price fixing and price freezing.

Sometimes it seems as if there are more solutions than problems. On closer scrutiny, it turns out that many of today’s problems are a result of yesterday’s solutions. – Thomas Sowell

It’s bad enough (terrible, really) that the U.S. Treasury and the Fed mess with the economy, making the rich richer, the rest of us poorer, and throwing our future up in the air with their ‘adjustments’.

Remember the 2007-2008 financial crisis. The Fed created the real estate bubble. By lowering interest rates to record lows it drove a huge increase in home prices as many jumped on board the balloon ride.

The home lending market “financialized” high-risk subprime mortgages to low-income homebuyers. Wall Street firms became heavily involved in collateral debt obligations (CDOs) and mortgage-backed securities (MBSs).

The housing boom in the early to mid-2000s became extremely unstable as interest rates increased on ARMs and housing prices began to fall. Many subprime borrowers began to default on their payments. As a result, financial institutions worldwide suffered severe damage. There was an international banking crisis. On September 15, 2008 the Wall Street brokerage firm Lehman Brothers sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The subprime mortgage crisis devastated financial markets and contributed to the biggest economic downturn since the Great Depression. Read or see The Big Short for a sense of that economic disaster.

It’s not just the economic czars of the U.S. Treasury and Fed that screw things up. Congress not long ago passed spending bills with the Orwellian names “Cares Act” and “Inflation Reduction Act.” Both Acts have added to a massive deficit that is financed by the Fed’s creation of new money which increases the money supply and ergo inflation, the “price gouging” culprit that “price controls” would only exacerbate because nothing happens in isolation.

We don’t have inflation because the people are living too well. We have inflation because the government is living too well. -Ronald Reagan, during the 1980 presidential debate with Jimmy Carter.

Talk of “price controls” is nothing more than government avoiding accountability for its lack of spending control and its disruptive fiscal policies. And when you don’t understand that the seemingly complex and multitudinous causes of inflation boil down to too much money chasing too few goods and you are insulated from consequences, you continue the “price controls” rhetoric. You go on picking winners and losers.

Even if the government spends itself into bankruptcy and the economy still does not recover, Keynesians can always say that it would have worked if only the government had spent more. – Thomas Sowell

I raise the “price controls” issue as a way to raise awareness as to how our lives, our monthly bills, are influenced by outside forces and to address an ominous scenario on the horizon: a dictated, regimented, and authoritarian economy is in the works to “price control” us into place.

Wherever you are on the spectrum of “price controls” – hearing what you want to hear or hearing alarm bells – be aware that The Great Reset’s Globalist policies are a monolithic version of Kamala’s “price controls.” They encompass not just how businesses do business (who to employ, for how much, social and environmental impact, etc.) but what is to be valued – by everyone.

Simply put, our ‘betters’ will determine who does what and why. They will “price control” our lives with their values. That Kamala mentioned “price controls” shows that she was signaling Big Brother intimidation – pressure on specific industries against specific price increases. This same bullying will be exponentially greater under The Great Reset globalist ‘economy’.

Under The Great Reset, we will be made to swallow an alphabet soup of “price control” values and the institutions producing them, including DEI, CRT, ESG, LGBTQ by the UN, WEF, and WHO.

We will be told to value safetyism and therefore to prioritize world health at all costs to our individual liberty, national sovereignty, common sense, and actual science. We will be made to value One Health.

Who can forget the COVID madness? Lockdowns, closed schools and churches, forced vaccines, families separated, businesses destroyed. All the COVID mandates were price controls. Government mandated value.

The World Health Organization is scrambling to push a “Pandemic Agreement (Treaty)” – a global health control agenda that will override U.S. sovereignty. The WHO wants unprecedented power to declare “health emergencies” whenever they choose. And that could mean forced vaccines, lockdowns, and sweeping mandates—all justified under the guise of a so-called “emergency” of whatever nature.

The WHO Pandemic Treaty would give these Global Elites the power to:

-Globally authorize untested vaccines and pandemic products, pressuring governments to purchase and enforce their use on you, your family, and your friends.

-Dictate when and where you can travel, what you can eat, whether you can gather for worship, and even what you’re allowed to say online.

-Strip away your country’s ability to decide how to respond to future health crises, putting these decisions into the hands of WHO bureaucrats who do not represent you.

Again, if you are on the Left, recent history shows that you were OK with Big Brother forcing people to wear masks, social distance, and be vaccinated. And, if people didn’t obey, you were OK with people losing their jobs, businesses being fined and shuttered, and the COVID-positive being sent off to quarantine camps.

People were to be isolated, given only food and some cleaning supplies. They would be banned from participating in any religious services. The plan included contingencies for preventing suicide. There were no provisions made for any legal appeals or even the right to legal counsel.

If you are on the Left, you believe in forced degrowth because of a “climate crisis.” You follow “the science” wherever it goes. You believe in censorship, and everything else that “price controls” people. A Karen on the Left ‘price controlled’ the life of Peanut the squirrel.

If you are on the Left, you are OK with the Globalist agenda of the UN, WEF, and the WHO. You are OK with tyranny being priced in to all you do.

If you are not on the Left and are an independent critical thinker and have expanded your personal bandwidth to include history, you are aware that there are those who, in the bubble of their superior intellectual, moral and humanitarian enlightenment, see themselves in a superior position to make choices for you and me. If they can elevate choices to an existential level (pandemic, climate, etc.) then they believe they have a right to do so. Tyranny will be priced in.

Will the Fed convert the U.S. Dollar to Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)? If so, it would be only a matter of time before CBDCs are linked to a global database controlled by the UN, IMF, the WHO, or God forbid, the WEF.

I write this to warn Christians about what is ahead. Stop looking for Signs of the End Times in the Mideast. Forget the “Rapture” and “Left Behind” fantasies. Get prepared for the onslaught of “price controls.” Christians will be put under immense pressure to conform to the imposed values. Know what you will do when that happens. And get prepared for the Lord’s return. “Stay alert. You have no idea when the Lord might arrive. (Matt. 25: 1-13)

Prices are important not because money is considered paramount but because prices are a fast and effective conveyor of information through a vast society in which fragmented knowledge must be coordinated. – Thomas Sowell

If politicians stopped meddling with things they don’t understand, there would be a more drastic reduction in the size of government than anyone in either party advocates. – Thomas Sowell

No government of the left has done as much for the poor as capitalism has. Even when it comes to the redistribution of income, the left talks the talk but the free market walks the walk. What do the poor most need? They need to stop being poor. And how can that be done, on a mass scale, except by an economy that creates vastly more wealth? Yet the political left has long had a remarkable lack of interest in how wealth is created. As far as they are concerned, wealth exists somehow and the only interesting question is how to redistribute it. – Thomas Sowell

The most fundamental fact about the ideas of the political left is that they do not work. Therefore we should not be surprised to find the left concentrated in institutions where ideas do not have to work in order to survive. – Thomas Sowell

American Citizenship and Its Decline: The Global Elite

On this episode of The Hillsdale College Online Courses Podcast, Jeremiah and Juan discuss how much the COVID Pandemic changed their understanding of government overreach before introducing Dr. Victor Davis Hanson.

Citizenship is rare in human history but essential to free government. Today, the constitutional rule of citizens in America is threatened by a new form of government, unaccountable to the people, in which power is held by a ruling class that seeks to transform our society. In this eight-lecture course, students will examine the origins and history of citizenship in the West and the grave challenges American citizenship faces today.

There is a growing movement to surrender American sovereignty to international bodies. This effort—championed by a global elite—excludes the participation of the American people and threatens our national security.

Topics include the globalists, the Great Reset, the WHO and WEF

Trump picked Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Hopefully he can get rid of the “price control” lobbyists who have shilled their unhealthy junk to Congress and the American people. MAHA.

Trump pick is Al Gore’s worst nightmare.

The Not Trump Candidate

Let’s say you are all in on the Not Trump candidate being elected. The trustworthy and unbiased media and DOJ have endlessly vilified the other candidate. Based on this, you see yourself above that “foul” candidate and his supporters. Your image – self and public – and your world must be protected.

Let’s say you have chosen to accept what people in the media are saying: “Trump and Christian Nationalists are a threat to Democracy.” And though Democracy didn’t fall during Trump’s first term and the nation didn’t become a theocracy and Democrats, the democracy-must-be-destroyed-to-Save-Democracy party, perverted Democracy to steal the 2020 election, you have chosen to believe that Democracy is now threatened by Trump and his kind because there are those who say so.

Let’s say you’re all in with the Not-Trump candidate and the “Save Democracy” party, the self-proclaimed protectors of democratic norms (that ensured that there would not be an open Democratic primary . . . so democracy can die in darkness).

Let’s say you are OK with all this and you will look-in-the-mirror-of-your-world and see yourself as respectable for voting Not Trump. You’ve come to view your version of Christianity/Progressivism as not all that destructive. It is simply a way to be open-minded and to “Love Your Neighbor.”

Economics is over your head but you’ve heard the Not Trump candidate say “equity” “fair share” “price-gouging” and “opportunity economy.” And though under the Not Trump administration, inflation has reached its highest point since 1981, the high cost of living burdening millions of Americans, and the country has entered a recession, and the Not Trump candidate is clueless about economics, you go with the Not Trump flow because Not Trump.

Abortion, borders, and national sovereignty are annoying issues the Right brings up and so you avoid them. You have a higher calling. You are all in on existential and emotion-driven causes: climate change regulations, racial power structures, “unity”, “being nice”, “creation care”, and welcoming all illegal migrants without worrying about how to care for them.

Let’s say you are all in on the Not-Trump candidate and The New Way Forward. What does that look like?

Imagine. You own a business with employees and overhead to pay for and government comes in and says your pricing is too high. (Would they do this to Harvard?) You are accused of “price-gouging.” What do you do? To avoid expensive and extended litigation, you drop prices. Revenue is subsequently reduced. But, labor, materials, and overhead costs haven’t changed. To keep your business operating you cut employee benefits. You then cut the labor force. You then sell assets. Not hard to imagine. The New Way Forward is government saying it owns you and your business.

Accusing companies and corporations of taking advantage of people (Kamala, AOC, Liz Warren, et al.) with “price-gouging” verbal attacks is a ploy by autocratic politicians to take control of your bottom line in order to make them and their governing policies look good.

For, government will never accept responsibility for the high prices created with its enormous spending and dollar printing. The Fed has printed an incredible amount of money to buy the debt the US Treasury issues. And every time it does it expands the money supply, devalues the dollar, and drives up interest rates and inflation.

But, it’s the “price-gouging grocers” — as Team Harris would have you believe — and not the excessive government spending.

Remember: Vice President Harris cast the tie-breaking vote on the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) which increased inflation of prices.

Joe Biden said, at a New Mexico fundraiser, that “[The Inflation Reduction Act] has nothing to do with inflation.” “It has to do with the $368 billion, the single-largest investment in climate change anywhere in the world.”

Price-gouging? That is what Biden-Harris economics have done to all of us with their policies.

Since Biden took office, prices have risen nearly 20 percent, a number that, when checked against stagnant wage growth, puts the real effect of inflation at some of the worst levels we’ve seen in decades. Inflation is often described as the “hidden tax” because it takes away purchasing power from citizens not through taking away money directly but via a devaluation of the money that citizens already have.

You Won’t Believe Kamala Harris and Merrick Garland’s Latest Trick to Avoid Blame for Inflation… – Revolver News

One of the major stressors for families is cost of living. From a recent report issued by the surgeon general:

Over the last decade, parents have been consistently more likely to report experiencing high levels of stress compared to other adults. 33% of parents reporting high levels of stress in the past month compared to 20% of other adults. When stress is severe or prolonged, it can have a harmful effect on the mental health of parents and caregivers, which in turn also affects the well- being of the children they raise.

The report, in general, mentions several stress-inducing factors including “financial strain and economic instability.” It doesn’t mention the price-gouging inflation caused by the Biden-Harris regime. It just talks about more government solutions.

(Aren’t laws that impose an increase in the minimum wage also “price-gouging”? Labor costs are passed on to the customer.)

Not hard to imagine the major stress created by the Not Trump president.

Imagine. You are watching a debate and your choice of presidential candidate, the current Vice President, is asked, “Do you believe Americans are better off than they were four years ago?” and she responds saying, “I was raised as a middle-class kid.”

Kamala Harris couldn’t provide a coherent response to during the debate.

(BTW: Harris was raised by two parents with PhDs and lived in a well-off neighborhood.)

Imagine. You are at an Economic Club of Pittsburgh event that is hosting the Vice President. She is there to talk about her economic agenda and says:

“We need to guard that spirit. We have to guard that spirit. Let it always inspire us. Let it always be the source of our optimism, which is that spirit that is uniquely American. Let that then inspire us by helping us to be inspired to solve the problems that so many face, including our small business owners.”

Imagine. Our “serious thinker” Vice President as President and she can’t explain her economic policies because she doesn’t understand economics (only how to repeat ideological jargon) and “wholistically” speaks Kamalawocky:

Imagine a candidate for president who hasn’t released any tax policies. The candidate’s s New Way Forward is based on tax provisions in Biden’s 2025 budget proposal, which include a tax on unrealized capital gains, as reported in AxiosThe New York Times and The Wall Street Journal .

As proposed, the UCG tax applies only to individuals with at least $100 million in wealth who do not pay at least a 25% tax rate on their income (inclusive of unrealized capital gains). There are exemptions. Basically, it would not apply to the holdings of most startup founders or investors or on real estate based on certain conditions.

But nothing happens in isolation.

Certainly, a more complex tax code would burden the IRS (and likely encourage more tax money for the IRS) and would discourage investment in growing businesses. Many would invest in safer financial instruments such as government bonds rather than in risky new technology and innovation (energy sources, biopharmaceuticals, etc.) that produce great benefits.

Florida Atlantic University College of Business professor Siri Terjesen wrote in July 2024 that the UCG tax would act like a “kill-switch for entrepreneurship.” She said that “Investors may be less likely to invest in growth-oriented ventures due to greater swings in valuation compared to larger, established companies.”

The new tax on unrealized gains could hasten the selling of assets by investors for tax reasons rather than legitimate business reasons.

The new tax would penalize individuals for owning assets that appreciate, regardless of whether those assets are sold.

Behind the money grab is the argument that tax-free accumulation of wealth over generations intensifies income-and-wealth disparities in the U.S. (When government takes control of people’s wealth and plays favorites, the income-and-wealth disparity is exacerbated.)

It’s not hard to imagine that the Not Trump candidate’s administration, by taxing the “paper” gains, the unrealized gains of the top 0.01% of taxpayers in the country, will not use that tax revenue to pay off the enormous budget deficit but will instead, redistribute the money for “votes.”

The Biden-Harris regime did recklessly withdraw from the major Afghanistan War in August 2021. But there are U.S. troops stationed across the Middle East and other countries, mostly in counter-terrorism roles, according to a December 2023 White House War Powers Act report.

Thousands of U.S. troops remain in harm’s way. Hundreds have been under attack this year alone. Three died in January.

Let’s Talk Turkey

But first, a word from our sponsors ….

Map of the New World 1600s
Sam Adams

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace….We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

“Democracy extends the sphere of individual freedom, socialism restricts it. Democracy attaches all possible value to each man; socialism makes each man a mere agent, a mere number. Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”
― Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America

Alexis de Tocqueville

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money.” ― Alexis de Tocqueville

While I was on Twitter, a few years ago, I would jump in on threads where socialism and capitalism were discussed (Better, the terms were tossed about.). The anti-capitalists would denounce capitalism as “unfair” and the rich as “greedy” while insinuating “equality” and “fairness” occurred naturally within the materialist realm of socialism. As an example, they pointed to Scandinavian countries (where, amazingly, none of them had the gumption to take up residence. That would take initiative and responsibility and money on their part.)

The anti-capitalists, assuming a superior moral position, never talked in-depth about the mechanics of socialism other than it being a redistribution of wealth from “rich” to “poor” via confiscatory taxation. And, whether they were oblivious to or welcoming of the growing soft despotism in America that gives people the illusion that they are in control, I could not determine.

On Twitter there were also those who proclaimed Jesus to be a “Progressive”. They offered a litany of “Progressive” attributes assigned to Jesus, among them “anti-rich”, their presumed antithesis to “Blessed are the poor” [“…in spirit”]. There were those, too, who said that the early church was an example of socialism because the early Christian shared everything in common. Apparently, these folks had never read that Jesus warned about the dangers of the love of riches and not that someone who was rich shouldn’t be. Did these folks also not comprehend that the early church did what they did out of love and not out of coercion?

In the current hopped-up milieu of socialism as social justice*, what is the mystique and lure of socialism, central planning, and top-down government when …

Above this race of men stands an immense and tutelary power, which takes upon itself alone to secure their gratifications, and to watch over their fate. That power is absolute, minute, regular, provident, and mild. It would be like the authority of a parent, if, like that authority, its object was to prepare men for manhood; but it seeks on the contrary to keep them in perpetual childhood: it is well content that the people should rejoice, provided they think of nothing but rejoicing.

For their happiness such a government willingly labors, but it chooses to be the sole agent and the only arbiter of that happiness: it provides for their security, foresees and supplies their necessities, facilitates their pleasures, manages their principal concerns, directs their industry, regulates the descent of property, and subdivides their inheritances – what remains, but to spare them all the care of thinking and all the trouble of living? Thus it every day renders the exercise of the free agency of man less useful and less frequent; it circumscribes the will within a narrower range, and gradually robs a man of all the uses of himself.

-from “Democracy In America” by Alexis De Tocqueville, Chapter VI: “What Sort Of Despotism Democratic Nations Have To Fear

Long before social media came around fostering populist socialism, I inured myself against the idea of a free lunch. In the 80s I watched Milton and Rose Friedman’s Free to Choose Series on TV. The following video is part of that series.

Plain-spoken Milton Friedman, economist of the Chicago School of Economics, addresses the issue of social responsibility that seems to be the motivation behind a rejection of capitalism and the attraction of socialism. He also presents the fundamental difference between capitalism and socialism: capitalism – an economic market operating under the incentive of profit; socialism – the government market under the incentive of power. Included are his thoughts on collectivism, social justice, moral values, individual responsibility, the doctrine of social responsibility, and philanthropy.

For the many of you around the world who live in disparate circumstances and who read my blog, I pray that you will benefit greatly from this video.

A final word from our sponsors ….

It’s not an endlessly expanding list of rights — the ‘right’ to education, the ‘right’ to health care, the ‘right’ to food and housing. That’s not freedom, that’s dependency. Those aren’t rights, those are the rations of slavery — hay and a barn for human cattle.
― Alexis de Tocqueville

What good does it do me, after all, if an ever-watchful authority keeps an eye out to ensure that my pleasures will be tranquil and races ahead of me to ward off all danger, sparing me the need even to think about such things, if that authority, even as it removes the smallest thorns from my path, is also absolute master of my liberty and my life; if it monopolizes vitality and existence to such a degree that when it languishes, everything around it must also languish; when it sleeps, everything must also sleep; and when it dies, everything must also perish? ― Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America

When I refuse to obey an unjust law, I do not contest the right of the majority to command, but I simply appeal from the sovereignty of the people to the sovereignty of mankind.
― Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America

The liberties of our country, the freedoms of our civil Constitution are worth defending at all hazards; it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors. They purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood. It will bring a mark of everlasting infamy on the present generation – enlightened as it is – if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of designing men. ― Samuel Adams

Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote…that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country. ― Samuel Adams

The utopian schemes of leveling and a community of goods, are as visionary and impractical as those which vest all property in the crown. These ideas are arbitrary, despotic, and, in our government unconstitutional. ― Samuel Adams

* Pope Francis is Envisaging and Engendering an Open World:

“On the other hand, if we accept the great principle that there are rights born of our inalienable human dignity, we can rise to the challenge of envisaging a new humanity,” he proposes. “We can aspire to a world that provides land, housing and work for all.”

As one can surmise, Francis welcomes the populism of socialism and “for the good of all” envisages a communist version of Catholicism. For example, if you are a Catholic in China, (or the world for that matter) in his vision you’ll be provided land, housing and work provided that you are the Chinese Communist Party’s version of a “good citizen”.

The above helps explain why Pope Francis deplores the populism that elected Trump. A movement of “free people” is hostile to coercive top down rule and to non-democratic central planning and to the liberty-annihilating communism the Pope dreams of and so desires so as to reshape the world into his Let Us Dream image. The Pope/CCP desires the Ring of Power to conform all men to its will.

The Trump movement seeks to take back life, liberty, and country –identity – from the Ruling Class Obama-Clinton-Biden-Cuomo types who talk down to Americans, considering them “bitter clingers” and “deplorables” and rubes. The Trump movement detests the privileged elites (including Francis), and the unelected bureaucrats, and, essentially, those who are “more equal than others” and deign to tell them who they are and what they are to think and what they are to do. The Trump movement fights to keep America from becoming a third world country, as Democrat mayors prove it is possible with their “Open World” policies.

The Trump movement deplores the overreach and suffocating control of globalism. The movement seeks to remove the tentacles of the “Open World” beast that wants to devour the U.S. – our individual rights, our liberty, our Constitution and our identity  – to feed its One World Fratelli tutti chimera. “We the people” reject the Great Reset.

The One World forces and the purple and scarlet dressed Whore of Babylon are gathering to fight against the Lord, as foretold.

The Way They’ll Do Your Life

May 1 – the Day of Solidarity of workers around the world

The Left’s dalliance with Socialism, redolent with wooing – “Money is in the wrong hands”, “You show me a capitalist, and I’ll show you a bloodsucker”, Workers of the world unite! A future to believe in!” – is not a relationship with socialism’s destructive life-wrecking persona as history accords. Rather, the Left speaks in highly charged (and romanticized) words of a life-saving relationship with socialism using the likes of the moral sounding “From each according to his ability; To each according to his needs”. The match-makers of the Left hype the ‘good-side’ of socialism to their ‘clients’ as one of REVOLUTION! CHANGE! EQUALITY! These beguiling words and many more are enticements for a marriage to politicized envy. They are words of an appeal to dance with the devil (and his details). Millennials who court socialism don’t realize the monster they are dating.

The reality: “From each to the State. Your needs are subject to the State.” Democratic socialism: Pull a lever and vote for socialism; Pull the lever and vote your will; Pull the lever and your needs and your will are submitted to the State.

Personal histories, as in the podcast below, expose “for the people” ideologies and economic systems. As you will learn, socialism dehumanizes the people… “for the people”. Here’s the intro to the podcast from the post She Survived China’s Forced Labor Camp. Now She’s Urging Americans to Reject Socialism.

Jennifer Zeng grew up admiring the Communist Party of China and adhering to its stringent rules. But her life changed forever when she embraced religion and was swept up in a government crackdown on Falun Gong. Arrested four times as a young adult and held in as a prisoner in a labor camp, she quickly woke up to the horrors of living in a socialist state. After being subject to brutal torture, Zeng managed to escape China and now tells about the evils of socialism and communism.

At a time when more Americans are embracing Karl Marx’s teachings, Chris Wright has helped Zeng share her story as part of a network called the Anticommunism Action Team. They recently spoke to The Daily Signal along with Darian Diachok, who escaped from Soviet-era Ukraine as an infant and has helped former Soviet satellite states democratize and overcome their failed communist systems.

The goal of socialism is communism. Vladimir Lenin

The legacy of socialism is one of devastation “for the people”.  Beside the accounts in the podcast, personal stories via literature recount the actual eye-witness history. They have the greatest impact on the reader and certainly over myriads of facts. (I will write about the Left’s selective memory in a future post The Mau-Mauing of History.)

The sole substitute for an experience which we have not ourselves lived through is art and literature.

-Aleksander Solzhenitsyn

Required reading w/quotes. These are first-hand personal accounts of life under the heavy fist of socialism:

“Apart from the massacres, deaths and famines for which communism was responsible, the worst thing about the system was the official lying: that is to say the lying in which everyone was forced to take part, by repetition, assent or failure to contradict. I came to the conclusion that the purpose of propaganda in communist countries was not to persuade, much less to inform, but to humiliate and emasculate.”

Three books by Alexzander Solzhenitsyn reveal the grizzly details of Life under Communism via his experience. (I read the complete volumes of Gulag and the The Life…  in the 80’s. I just finished reading the stories of Apricot Jam:

“My life is over, a little early to be sure; but there’s nothing to be done about it. I shall never return to freedom. I am condemned to die – now or a little later. But later on, in truth, it will be even harder, an so the sooner the better. I no longer have any property whatsoever. For me those I love have died, and for them I have died. From today on, my body is useless and alien to me. Only my spirit and my conscience remain precious and important to me.”

“A tub was brought in to melt snow for mortar. They heard somebody saying it was twelve o’clock already.
“It’s sure to be twelve,” Shukhov announced. “The sun’s over the top already.”
“If it is,” the captain retorted, “it’s one o’clock, not twelve.”
“How do you make that out?” Shukhov asked in surprise. “The old folk say the sun is highest at dinnertime.”
“Maybe it was in their day!” the captain snapped back. “Since then it’s been decreed that the sun is highest at one o’clock.”
“Who decreed that?”
“The Soviet government.”
The captain took off with the handbarrow, but Shukhov wasn’t going to argue anyway. As if the sun would obey their decrees!”

‘Tis the Season to Rethink Equal Outcomes

The Progressive’s notion of equal outcomes: “income equality” realized through redistribution; test results based on tests revised so that certain people could pass the test; participation-trophy type merit; laws that ‘fix’ opportunity for certain people; verdicts and sentencing of activist judges who rule based on a defendant’s social circumstances rather than by the crime committed upon another; homosexual ‘marriage’ as marriage equality; “equal pay for equal work” which dismisses the resultant quality of what each worker produces; a state in which people have approximately the same material wealth and achieve equal levels of income; equating equal opportunities with equal results…

Economist Thomas Sowell gives us some insight into Progressive thinking:

Equal opportunity does not mean equal results, despite how many laws and policies proceed as if it does, or how much fashionable rhetoric equates the two.

An example of that rhetoric was the title of a recent New York Times column: “A Ticket to Bias.” That column recalled bitterly the experience of a woman in a wheelchair who bought a $300 ticket to a rock concert but was unable to see when other people around her stood up. This was equated with “bias” on the part of those who ran the arena.

The woman in the wheel chair declared, “true equality remains a dream out of reach.” Apparently only equality of results is “true’ equality….

…Confusion between equal opportunity and equal results is a dangerous confusion behind many kinds of spoiled brat politics. -Thomas Sowell from Spoiled Brat Politics, The Thomas Sowell Reader

To put us in the proper reflective mood for the Season to Rethink Equal Outcomes, below are three accounts from Scripture which reveal to us God’s concept of equal outcomes.

But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them. 2 Samuel 24:24

The first thing I notice about the above account is that forms of capitalism have been around for a long time. That is, capitalism, simply defined, as an economic and social system in which property, business, and industry are privately owned and directed towards making the greatest possible profits for successful organizations and people, especially as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.

In the above account there was a cooperative exchange of private property between two individuals. Both were satisfied with the outcome. And, apparently God was satisfied with the outcome. David’s desire was to not give God the impression that he was doing something good for God, a.k.a. virtue signal or tokenism, but to pay proper respect and attribute worth to God through his offering.

David built an altar to the LORD there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then the LORD answered his prayer in behalf of the land, and the plague on Israel was stopped. 2 Samuel 24:25

The second thing I notice is restraint. Though Araunah offered his property freely to king David (2 Sam. 24:23) the king did not accept it without paying Araunah its worth to Araunah  and perhaps more. That cost David. The king could have just taken the property to begin with. Beastly kings and rulers throughout history have seized property for themselves and for “the masses”. David was not about to disrespect his neighbor Araunuh or his God by stiffing either. The king did not exploit Araunuh for righteous ends.

Worth had to be accounted for with regard to Araunah’s property and with regard to a show of respect to God. “I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” That is what David said and that is what the widow thought.

Then Jesus sat down opposite the offering box, and watched the crowd putting coins into it. Many rich people were throwing in large amounts. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, worth less than a penny. He called his disciples and said to them, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the offering box than all the others. For they all gave out of their wealth. But she, out of her poverty, put in what she had to live on, everything she had.”  Mark 12:41-44

The first thing we notice in this account is the virtue signaling and tokenism of cha-ching-ers who want to appear to profit God while incurring little or no cost to themselves. In kingdom contrast, the unassuming widow, like king David, gave an offering that cost her appreciably and was God’s Temple worthy. The widow gave her financial security. The Lord was pleased to acknowledge her gift acknowledging the God Who is Faithful (Psalm 146: 8). She loved God more than life itself. Now, did you notice in these two stories that taking into account the worth of each party and their property creates equal outcomes – both parties being satisfied and even pleased with what is exchanged? This method of accounting, making sure the ‘other’ is considered and is valued as at least equal with ourselves, can be applied to all interactions.

In a previous post I wrote:

We are told by Jesus to “love your neighbors as yourself”. To do this we must consider our own self-interest and then apply the same measure of self-interest toward our neighbors. This parity of accounting is not unlike the Lord’s accounting of forgiveness: “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive others their trespasses.” […,] the resentment worldview has a perverted accounting system: the self is to be credited and others must be debited for there to be parity in their world. If the word “fairness” is ever to be applied socially and economically to our culture then these two commands of our Lord define its limited and personal application.

As shown from Scripture, God endorsed equal outcomes are marriages of opportunities with offerings. The outcomes are not forced or determined by a higher power or the state. The individuals involved come to an agreement about the outcome. A marriage of a man and woman is the archetype of this union of opportunity and offering.

The man and woman exchange vows and rings and, over time, their lives. The opportunity: they met and each determined that an exchange of their life for the other would make both happy. The offering: they give themselves which costs everything. They do so freely. The exchange is not coerced as in a shot-gun wedding or when those in power decide to take your property by force. When things are forced and a person is acted upon without it being offered it is called rape. It is called stealing when a person’s property is forcibly taken.

The equal outcome of marriage is that the two become one. The transaction creates a greater good (including little ones) and both parties equally, with God’s help, continue to be satisfied with the outcome.

One more illustration from Scripture regarding the marriage of opportunity and offering. Remember this woman?

While Jesus was at Bethany, in the house of Simon (known as “the Leper’), a woman came to him who had an alabaster vase of extremely valuable ointment. She poured it on his head as he was reclining at the table.

When the disciples saw it, they were furious.

“What’s the point of all this waste?” they said. “This could have been sold for a fortune, and the money could have been given to the poor!”

Jesus knew what they were thinking.

“Why make life difficult for the woman?” he said. “It’s a lovely thing, what she’s done for me. You always have the poor with you, don’t you? But you won’t always have me. When she poured this ointment on my body, you see, she did it to prepare me for burial. “I’m telling you the truth: where this gospel is announced in all the world, what she has done will be told, and people will remember her.”

Matthew 26: 6-13

What do we learn about opportunity and offering from this account of a woman pouring a very expensive offering onto Jesus’ head? We learn that the Progressives around Jesus were highly offended when they couldn’t control the outcome of the “alabaster vase of extremely valuable ointment”. We also learn from Jesus about the opportunity that brought them together: “… you won’t always have me”. The woman’s offering was what she could have lavished on herself. Maybe she applied David’s words to her head: “I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”

The extravagant and expensive offering given freely was freely accepted by Jesus in preparation for his burial. In fact, he tells us that the equally shared outcome of what she had done was worth proclaiming: the marriage of opportunity and sacrificial offering as an act of love.

One Nation Under a Bed of Roses

Our current notion of cultural diversity — trumpeted as the repudiation of racism and biological essentialism — in fact grew out of and perpetuates the very concepts it congratulates itself on having escaped. The American love affair with race — especially when you can dress race up as culture — has continued and even intensified. Almost everything we say about culture (that the significant differences between us are cultural, that such differences should be respected, that our cultural heritages should be perpetuated, that there’s a value in making sure that different cultures survive) seems to me mistaken. We must shift our focus from cultural diversity to economic equality to help alter the political terrain of contemporary American intellectual life.

The Trouble With Diversity by Walter Benn Michaels, August 13, 2006

What do you make of the above quote from the web article? What do you make of “We must shift our focus from cultural diversity to economic equality to help alter the political terrain of contemporary American intellectual life.”?

I thought of how everything the Left offers as societal ‘fix’ is off-kilter. I thought of how the Left seeks to alter the political and cultural terrain so as to espouse the “For the people” narrative for their own Ruling Class benefit.

Has dictator literature a future? If the absence of a sense of humor in public life is anything to go by, it very well might. Indeed, dictator-like literature seems to be increasingly common in academe, as a genre to be imitated rather than eschewed. It is either self-imposed or a manifestation of ideological conformism in the face of social pressure. – Author Authoritarians: The literary talent (or lack thereof) of tyrants at the typewriter by Anthony Daniels

I also was reminded of some of the clarion words of Thomas Sowell, economist:

Regarding the initial quote, there are certainly cultural differences and they are certainly not of equal worth to humans. A culture of cannibalism or animism or Voodoism or a culture of abortion where human life is deemed an inconvenience or a culture of hedonism where self-pleasure is god or a culture of enforced slavery to a socialist political state or a culture of ‘red in tooth and claw’ materialism…none of these are worthy of humans.

We must maintain what is worthy of humans. That would include the cultural heritages that have sustained and benefitted humans down through time: mother and father families, transcendent art, music, and literature, the rule of law, and Christianity. There are without doubt differences between us that are more significant than cultural. These differences come down to whether one believes in the one True God and His kingdom way of life. One cannot equalize light and dark

Regarding the income inequality narrative, promoted as “For the people”: the benefit is solely for those pushing it – the ruling class who want to maintain control of their narrative and of you to flesh out their narrative. But, income inequality should not be an impetus driving anyone to do anything. Income inequities like cultural inequities should be resolved by the free individual and not by coercion.

People, though born equally human, are not equal in ability, desire or will. What should happen: each inequity should be the impetus for us to assess our personal values and goals in the light of loving God and our neighbor. Coercive income redistribution, whether via taxation or increased minimum wages, does not enable human flourishing. Rather, coercion supports further dependence, class animosity and the intellectual’s narrative that goes toward tenure consideration in the ivory tower.

The Left’s focus on materialism under the guise of ‘righting’ the Left’s storied wrong (“income inequality”) will have the same devastating effects as defining our culture down to the lowest common denominator for equality’s sake: humans acting as irrational animals to survive.

By seeing every human being as a soulless captive to impersonal economic forces, socialism kills human dignity. After that, as we have witnessed too vividly and too frequently, killing the human body becomes inevitable.Socialism Disregards Human Dignity, Eugénio Lopes

In its attempts to “alter the political terrain”, the Left demands that there should be no work effort without income equality. Red clenched fists (an ersatz bed of roses) is the Left’s social justice poster.

As a follower of Jesus in his kingdom on earth, I have no doubt whatsoever that the Evil One wants a social justice where people ‘love their neighbor’ vicariously through an impersonal government program. The Evil One does not want anyone to give directly to their neighbor. That is what Jesus wants – agape love. The Evil One would rather you move your mouse to virtue signal than do any heavy lifting for your neighbor. On the receiving end, the Evil One would rather you be one of the nine lepers would did not return to Jesus and give thanks to him for what he did for ten neighbors. The Evil One would rather you get what you want and not be grateful.

If the Left’s income equality narrative ever becomes reality you can be sure that we will become one nation under a bed of red-fisted roses.

A Just Wage–Flourishing in the Balance

Without a doubt, this past year you’ve heard the Bernie Sander’s mantra “a just wage”. When Bernie wasn’t chanting, Bernie railed against the 1 %, Wall St., corporations and just about anyone who made money (except those on the Left making money (i.e. George Soros, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett)).

And, as you know, Bernie’s answer to income differences was the penumbra of socialism’s cloud by day and a minimum wage increase to provide a home fire at night.

Yet, nothing happens in isolation, Bernie. Griping about unfairness may get you ten thousand followers but it doesn’t feed those followers in a desert economy. A kingdom understanding can and does. So, for starters, ….

Below is an excellent brief discussion about the minimum wage. Samuel Gregg, of the Acton Institute, speaks of a need for awareness on the part of both employers and employees about economic conditions and for each not to be myopic in their concerns.

A mysterious beam has been focused on Earth’s citizens. It is sucking the wealth out of people!  The ray is said to be coming from the dead planet Marx. But wait. Professor Zharkov had miscalculated.  The deadly beam is coming from the planet Ruling Class.

It seems that there is a new emperor in town:  Marx the Ideologically Merciless!  And he is using a powerful integrated Collectivist Ray against the people of earth.  The deadly Supreme Socialist Ray or SSR is focused directly on Earth’s citizenry and right on their property. The citizens of earth are fleeing, taking their possessions and hoping not to feel the burn.

I am being told that the wicked Queen Hillary Azura has formed a partnership with the evil emperor Marx the Merciless on planet Ruling Class.  This witch’s powers include the ability to transmute people into figures of living clay, condemning them to live in darkened caves.  She employs the incense of forgetfulness to subdue her enemies.  She is hated and feared by the country class.

Marx the Merciless has also allied himself with other nefarious characters and groups:  the Red Hammer of Sanders organization, the unscrupulous Queen Rubia E. Warren, BHO the shape shifter and the Carnage Corporation. With his life altering ray focused directly on you, Marx the Merciless hopes that “individual economic actions and individual property, rights will be altered and abridged” forever.

From Investigation of the Social Studies in the Schools

“8. Under the molding influence of socialized processes of living, drives of technology and science, pressures of changing thought and policy, and disrupting impacts of economic disaster, there is a notable waning of the once widespread popular faith in economic individualism; and leaders in public affairs, supported by a growing mass of the population, are demanding the introduction into economy of ever wider measures of planning and control.

9. Cumulative evidence supports the conclusion that, in the United States as in other countries, the age of individualism and laissez faire in economy and government is closing and that a new age of collectivism is emerging. “

In his final semester, Trevor had earned enough credits to graduate.  Trevor had worked long and hard.  He would graduate in the top 1% of his class. And, as expected, Trevor’s school loan would come due a year from graduation. Trevor would need to find work. But.

Trevor, a student of required Karl Marx readings, was told that 90% of his credits now must be redistributed to other classmates who were lacking credits. Trevor was taught that socialism is the way of the future and that he must submit.

Trevor, now, would need to apply for another student loan to earn more credits to graduate. And though tenured professors did not have to redistribute their years of teaching to create tenure for other teachers (some people being more equal than others), Trevor accepted his plight….by saying, “Hell no!”

On the heels of a previous post, Resident Evil: Redistribution, I now dispatch a warning about recent alien attacks on human flourishing. And in this brief post, I will also present you with some initial understanding of wealth disparity so that you will be able to withstand the alien invasion.

First, the humanity invading spores of socialism:

Run for your lives! Wealth snatchers are coming!

Run for your lives! Wealth snatchers are coming!

The socialist spores, planted next to you while you sleep in the twilight of Progressive thoughts, will make you into “pod people.”

As explained by the alien Democratic Socialists, after the takeover of your mind, body and soul by the socialist spores “life loses its frustrating complexity, because all emotions and sense of individuality vanish.”

Spores en route to your home.

Spores en route to your home.

Marxism, the origin of leftist thought, and its Progressive offshoot Democratic Socialism will require the means ultimately to abolish the individual and their private property along with the elimination of truth and religion. This will be done to accomplish the ends of redistribution of wealth and the creation of proletarian banality.

In its negation of the individual to further collective materialism, Marxism must necessarily denigrate humanity down to the lowest common statistic. Marxism does so through exacting means: you are forced to live within the lie once you allow the lie to overtake you. It is your vote to elect a Democratic Socialist that makes you complicit with the lie. In so doing it would appear that…

Pod hatcing

Pods hatching

“Each person somehow succumbs to a profane trivialization of his or her inherent humanity…In everyone there is some willingness to merge with the anonymous crowd and to flow comfortably along with it down the river of pseudo-life. This is much more than a simple conflict between two identities. It is something far worse: it is a challenge to the very notion of identity itself.”Vaclav Havel

The tearing down of your sacred humanity begins after socialism spores have attached themselves to you:

“When the [revolutionary] political state…comes violently into being…[it] can and must proceed to the abolition of religion, to the destruction of religion.” -Karl Marx

Because…

“…”to abolish religion as the illusory happiness of the people is to demand their real happiness; the demand to give up illusions about the existing state of affairs is the demand to give up a state of affairs that needs illusions.” –Karl Marx

What is the “illusion” of religion being replaced with in Marx’s scheme and in neo-Marxist Bernie Sander’s scheme? The “un-masking” of collectivized materialism. Nothing more, nothing less.

Oh, and this, too…

The historian of ideas Leszek Kołakowski said that Marxism (the philosophy) and Karl Marx (the man) had become fetishized and rendered into commodities; that such a form of intellectual reductionism could be construed as a secular, materialist faith that substituted for supernatural religion.” (emphasis mine)

Self enserfment: your vote for and your surrender to Democratic Socialism will, as history has shown, evolve into acquiescence to totalitarian rule. Then you will live hand to mouth:

“Totalitarian regimes created a debilitating psychology of complicity. Because they owned and controlled everything, and recognized no limits to their own power, every mouthful of food, every moment of rest, every item of consumption, was enjoyed solely by their grace and favor, which could be withdrawn at a whim.” -Theodrore Dalrymple, The Wilder Shores of Marx: Journeys in a Vanishing World.

Enter the neo-apparatchik: the contemporary followers of Marxism, the beguiling ideological sycophants called Democratic Socialists, will destroy the growth of wealth and prevent human flourishing for the sake of centralization and the commodification of one’s life. Under them, truth becomes what is commanded to be believed by State – unsalable things becoming salable.

The Democratic Socialism political ads are enticing commercials promoting a prescription of socialism spores. They are, of course, presented without contraindications.

Uncle Sanders wants...your wealth!

Sadly, as I quoted in my previous post (linked above) regarding the Me Generation…

“What do students value, and are those values any different from those of previous generations? … [studies of] students…reveal further characteristics that distinguish Generation Me from prior cohorts. A consistent trend in these data is the decline in interest in abstract and intellectual concerns and the increase in practical and materialistic ones.” –Jean M. Twenge, The Rise of Self and the Decline of Intellectual and Civic Interest, The State of the American Mind by Mark Bauerlein and Adam Belllow, copyright 2015 Templeton press (emphasis mine)

I prescribe the following:

Read history. Read The Wilder Shores of Marx: Journeys in a Vanishing World.

Do this in order to find out what the socialist world becomes via a personal eyewitness account provided by Theodore Dalrymple.

If you can care about your sacred humanity over and above collectivized material concerns then maybe there is hope for you and this generation.

Your Dead Meat Under Democratic Socialism!

You’re Dead Meat Under Democratic Socialism!

Most important, if you carry an attitude of thanksgiving with you wherever you go and use it in every situation, then envy won’t fester into “income inequality” obsession. Thanksgiving EveryDay is the best immunization against envy and materialism and the pursuit of other’s money.

If you can keep from taking in the poisonous alien banter about “income inequality” then you will be better able to flourish in a healthy and natural way, as opposed to allowing another life form to take over your pocket-book and leaving you dependent and devoid of humanity.

The videos below provide some intellectually organic safeguards against socialism’s spores. To further inoculate yourself you will need to read the accessible Basic Economics and Wealth, Poverty and Politics. Both books are by economist Thomas Sowell. In doing so you will gain a basic understanding of economics, an understanding that is currently deficit in the general public’s intellect. You will also then be able to comprehend the dire warnings I have presented here and will be able to guard yourself against the soul-encroaching socialist spores and The Invasion of the Wealth Snatchers.
