Anyone who has read Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 will remember the menacing Mechanical Hound.
In fireman Guy Montag’s world, firemen burn outlawed books and where people hid them. The firehouse ‘dog’, a robotic beast, is an enforcer for the state. If you do not follow society’s rules, the Hound is unleashed. It tracks down and kills book readers using stored information about individuals. The Hound catches its prey and then injects it with lethal drugs.
Though configured as man’s best friend, Montag finds out the true nature of the beast. Being “fascinated as always with the dead beast, the living beast,” he touches the muzzle of the Hound. The Hound growls and Montag recoils.
“The Hound half rose in its kennel and looked at him with green-blue neon light flickering in its suddenly activated eye bulbs. It growled again, a strange rasping combination of electric sizzle, a frying sound, a scraping of metal, a turning of cogs that seemed rusty and ancient with suspicion.”
Not long afterward, Montag tells Captain Beatty “It doesn’t like me.” Captain Beatty tells Montag:
“Come off it. It doesn’t like or dislike. It just `functions.’ It’s like a lesson in ballistics. It has a trajectory we decide for it. It follows through. It targets itself, homes itself, and cuts off. It’s only copper wire, storage batteries, and electricity.”
The Mechanical Hound attacks what it is programmed to attack. And when Montag becomes more and more inquisitive about books and one is found in his possession, the Hound is released to track him down.

The techno-capitalist-industrialist-open borders system that goes by “Progress” or “Development” or “the Science” or “Fair-Trade” or “Commercialization” or “Globalization” or “Open Society,” is summed into a single descriptor – “the Machine” – by Paul Kingsnorth in his book Against the Machine (See side bar, previous post, and podcasts below for more information.)
In the chapter Come the Black Ships, Kingsnorth describes the process of Machine as being
“a war against all ‘closed’ things; against limits and boundaries of any kind, cultural and ecological; against historical traditions, local economies, trade unions, national economic plans, nations themselves, tribal cultures, religions . . . anything that interferes with the path of commercial expansion and its associated culture of individualist liberalism. Open is good, closed is bad. Why? Because closed things can’t be harvested, exploited or transformed in the image of the new world which the Machine is building. ‘Open’ things, on the other hand; well, they’re easy prey.”
That is our reality today. The West has colonialized itself with what it has colonized other nations – the Machine’s promise of the “open is good” gravy train. The WEF’s mission statement cloaks the Machine in good: “We bring together government, businesses and civil society to improve the state of the world” by “seiz[ing] opportunities for positive change.”
And so it is that the Machine’s process is advertised as that which benefits humanity in various ways. These include “Enhanced Customer Experience”, “Innovation”, “Diversity”, and “Advancements in Medicine, Education, Efficiency, Productivity, and “Sustainability” all while waging “a war against all ‘closed’ things” for the sake of its commercialization, monetization, and control of the process.
For the Machine to wage “war against all ‘closed’ things”, technology is employed to sniff out and snuff out the ‘closed’ – those people and their places unwilling to “be harvested, exploited or transformed in the image of the new world.” This machine I see depicted as Bradbury’s Mechanical Hound.
The Mechanical Hound represents the perversion of technology. Man’s best friend, a creature meant for companionship, aid, and protection, is turned into a technological tool of oppression. Its purpose is to impose order with terror.
With the Mechanical Hound in mind, consider digital technology which can be seen as friendly and helpful but can been programmed to avenge and punish citizens who break society’s rules. See China’s social credit system.
With the Mechanical Hound in mind, see the UK introducing digital ID cards. The UK government claims the system will simplify access to public services such as healthcare, welfare, and childcare, reduce identity fraud, ensure that only those with the right to work can be hired and is expected to minimize identity fraud by linking personal information to a secure digital format. With all these great “benefits” (for the state), what could go wrong? Say, if someone online says something that is considered “hate speech” by the UK government will the Hound be released to track that person down? That is happening today in the UK.
See a cashless society and Central Bank digital currency (CBDC) where purchases are monitored and financial accounts controlled by the government.
See the smartphone that “slept but did not sleep, lived but did not live in its gently humming, gently vibrating, softly illuminated kennel back in a dark corner of” your pocket.
Consider the digital contraptions in your home and car that, like the Hound, can track you with information gathered from 5G towers that is downloaded to data centers that consume massive amounts of energy and water and taxpayer money – to monitor your physical and societal whereabouts so it can sell you more of the Machine’s process.
In Montag’s repressed society, books, book holders, and critical thinkers are dealt with. For books hold the experience and wisdom of ‘closed’ things – history, tradition, culture and religion – and must be done away with. And, so must thinking critically. With this in mind, consider the calls for censorship on our college campuses. In Britain you can go to jail for saying the ‘wrong’ thing.
In Montag’s repressed society, wall screens and pills replace books. The wall screens produce for Montag’s wife, Mildred, her ‘family’. Their home has three wall screens. She wants a fourth wall screen. We learn how depressing life is for Mildred when she attempts to commit suicide with an overdose.
How did we get amenable to the Machine’s control over us and thus take on a mechanized way of seeing and relating to the world? Bradbury provides insight.
Fahrenheit 451 is about more than censorship. It is about conformity to state-imposed uniformity. Books in 451 were seen as creating discord. They had to go. For, with the advent of visual media, TV in particular, people no longer read and didn’t want to hear anything but what they heard on the screens. People wanted censorship and conformity to the screens.
As Captain Beatty tells Montag,
“’The fact is we didn’t get along well until photography came into its own. Then–motion pictures in the early twentieth century. Radio. Television. Things began to have mass.’
“Montag sat in bed, not moving.
“’And because they had mass, they became simpler,” said Beatty. “Once, books appealed to a few people, here, there, everywhere. They could afford to be different. The world was roomy. But then the world got full of eyes and elbows and mouths. Double, triple, quadruple population. Films and radios, magazines, books levelled down to a sort of paste pudding norm, do you follow me?’”
“’I think so.’”
“Beatty peered at the smoke pattern he had put out on the air. ‘Picture it. Nineteenth-century man with his horses, dogs, carts, slow motion. Then, in the twentieth century, speed up your camera. Books cut shorter. Condensations, Digests. Tabloids. Everything boils down to the gag, the snap ending.”
“’Snap ending.’ Mildred nodded.”
Captain Beatty, again:
“You must understand that our civilization is so vast that we can’t have our minorities upset and stirred. Ask yourself, What do we want in this country, above all? People want to be happy, isn’t that right? Haven’t you heard it all your life? I want to be happy, people say. Well, aren’t they? Don’t we keep them moving, don’t we give them fun? That’s all we live for, isn’t it? For pleasure, for titillation? And you must admit our culture provides plenty of these.”

This our reality: the Machine and the Mechanical Hound.
Paul Kingsnorth’s Against the Machine– On the Unmaking of Humanity has provided us a prophetic understanding of where we are and where we are headed. The Machine is moving us downstream, displacing us from what we value – in Kingsnorth’s words “the past, people, place, and prayer.”
Various entities participate and promote the Machine.
Mainstream media is run by the Machine. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, WSJ, NYT, WaPo and other outlets are the Machine’s mouthpieces. They talk down the “closed” and proclaim the “open.”

It takes no stretch of the imagination to see ourselves in Montag’s society or to see technology as that which mimics the good but is easily programmed to avenge and punish citizens who break society’s rules. The Mechanical Hound can tract us down to dispose of the ‘closed’ and conform us to the “Open is good” of the Machine.
Bradbury said that with Fahrenheit 451 he wasn’t trying to predict the future but to prevent it. He wanted to protect the present.

Yuri Aleksandrovich Bezmenov (1939–1993), also known as Tomas David Schuman, was a Soviet journalist and KGB operative specializing in propaganda and ideological subversion.
Ideological subversion is the process of bending a society’s perception of reality so completely that it destroys itself.
The goal is to demoralize a society by undermining its moral, educational, and cultural foundations, making people unable to recognize or defend against threats.
Demoralization takes 15-20 years, the time needed to educate one generation with subversive ideas.
Five years ago, Peter Thiel, the billionaire venture capitalist behind PayPal and Palantir, sent a prescient email to Facebook executives.
“When 70% of millennials say they are pro-socialist,” he wrote, “we need to do better than simply dismiss them by saying that they are stupid or entitled or brainwashed; we should try and understand why.”
The email went viral after democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani’s victory last week in the New York City mayoral race. Thiel then sat down with The Free Press’s Sean Fischer to explain what he saw in 2020 that no one else did.
Capitalism isn’t working for young people, Thiel said, citing burdensome student debt and regulations putting homeownership out of reach for many. “People assume everything still works, but objectively, it doesn’t. . . . If you proletarianize the young people, you shouldn’t be surprised if they eventually become communist.” (Emphasis mine.)
Thiel, who I see as also promoting the Machine, at least sees what the Machine is doing to the young.
And, of course, socialism/communism is a horrifying Machine that revels in terror to replace humanity with ideology.

The Machine’s AI Alchemy
Mary Shelly’s Victor Frankenstein, obsessed with creating a human being, used alchemy and electricity and body parts to create a creature (without woman). . .
A group of Stanford University scientists . . . used artificial intelligence to design new viruses capable of killing bacteria.
In a world where AI keeps creeping in on uniquely human territory by composing sonnets, writing songs or forging friendships, this seemed to be crossing a new Rubicon. Depending on your belief system, AI was doing what evolution, or God, or scientists working with genome-engineering tools aim to do.
“Machines are rethinking what it is to be human, what it is to be alive,” said Michael Hecht, a chemistry professor at Princeton University focused on designing novel proteins and artificial genomes. “I find this very unsettling and staggering. They are devising, coming up with novel life forms. Darwin 2.0.”
You likely don’t gauge your economic future with economic charts, indicators, and theories. You don’t watch CNBC or Fox Business programs. You sit down at the kitchen table, go over the monthly bills, and see reality – there are forces at work driving prices up. So, when you heard Kamala Harris talk about “price controls” what did you think?
If on the Left and a Progressive, you might agree with the fiery rhetoric of politicians Kamala Harris, AOC, Liz Warren, et al. pronouncing corporations and grocers as “price gouging greedy bastards” and that they need to be controlled. You would be OK with government intervention.
If on the Right and a conservative, then you would balk at “price controls” talk. You want the government to be hands off knowing that when government gets involved a great imbalance is thrown into the market. You understand that politicians do not know how to solve inflation. They just create more problems with their fixes’, including price fixing and price freezing.

It’s bad enough (terrible, really) that the U.S. Treasury and the Fed mess with the economy, making the rich richer, the rest of us poorer, and throwing our future up in the air with their ‘adjustments’.
Remember the 2007-2008 financial crisis. The Fed created the real estate bubble. By lowering interest rates to record lows it drove a huge increase in home prices as many jumped on board the balloon ride.
The home lending market “financialized” high-risk subprime mortgages to low-income homebuyers. Wall Street firms became heavily involved in collateral debt obligations (CDOs) and mortgage-backed securities (MBSs).
The housing boom in the early to mid-2000s became extremely unstable as interest rates increased on ARMs and housing prices began to fall. Many subprime borrowers began to default on their payments. As a result, financial institutions worldwide suffered severe damage. There was an international banking crisis. On September 15, 2008 the Wall Street brokerage firm Lehman Brothers sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The subprime mortgage crisis devastated financial markets and contributed to the biggest economic downturn since the Great Depression. Read or see The Big Short for a sense of that economic disaster.
It’s not just the economic czars of the U.S. Treasury and Fed that screw things up. Congress not long ago passed spending bills with the Orwellian names “Cares Act” and “Inflation Reduction Act.” Both Acts have added to a massive deficit that is financed by the Fed’s creation of new money which increases the money supply and ergo inflation, the “price gouging” culprit that “price controls” would only exacerbate because nothing happens in isolation.
We don’t have inflation because the people are living too well. We have inflation because the government is living too well. -Ronald Reagan, during the 1980 presidential debate with Jimmy Carter.
Talk of “price controls” is nothing more than government avoiding accountability for its lack of spending control and its disruptive fiscal policies. And when you don’t understand that the seemingly complex and multitudinous causes of inflation boil down to too much money chasing too few goods and you are insulated from consequences, you continue the “price controls” rhetoric. You go on picking winners and losers.

I raise the “price controls” issue as a way to raise awareness as to how our lives, our monthly bills, are influenced by outside forces and to address an ominous scenario on the horizon: a dictated, regimented, and authoritarian economy is in the works to “price control” us into place.
Wherever you are on the spectrum of “price controls” – hearing what you want to hear or hearing alarm bells – be aware that The Great Reset’s Globalist policies are a monolithic version of Kamala’s “price controls.” They encompass not just how businesses do business (who to employ, for how much, social and environmental impact, etc.) but what is to be valued – by everyone.
Simply put, our ‘betters’ will determine who does what and why. They will “price control” our lives with their values. That Kamala mentioned “price controls” shows that she was signaling Big Brother intimidation – pressure on specific industries against specific price increases. This same bullying will be exponentially greater under The Great Reset globalist ‘economy’.
Under The Great Reset, we will be made to swallow an alphabet soup of “price control” values and the institutions producing them, including DEI, CRT, ESG, LGBTQ by the UN, WEF, and WHO.
We will be told to value safetyism and therefore to prioritize world health at all costs to our individual liberty, national sovereignty, common sense, and actual science. We will be made to value One Health.
Who can forget the COVID madness? Lockdowns, closed schools and churches, forced vaccines, families separated, businesses destroyed. All the COVID mandates were price controls. Government mandated value.
The World Health Organization is scrambling to push a “Pandemic Agreement (Treaty)” – a global health control agenda that will override U.S. sovereignty. The WHO wants unprecedented power to declare “health emergencies” whenever they choose. And that could mean forced vaccines, lockdowns, and sweeping mandates—all justified under the guise of a so-called “emergency” of whatever nature.
The WHO Pandemic Treaty would give these Global Elites the power to:
-Globally authorize untested vaccines and pandemic products, pressuring governments to purchase and enforce their use on you, your family, and your friends.
-Dictate when and where you can travel, what you can eat, whether you can gather for worship, and even what you’re allowed to say online.
-Strip away your country’s ability to decide how to respond to future health crises, putting these decisions into the hands of WHO bureaucrats who do not represent you.
Again, if you are on the Left, recent history shows that you were OK with Big Brother forcing people to wear masks, social distance, and be vaccinated. And, if people didn’t obey, you were OK with people losing their jobs, businesses being fined and shuttered, and the COVID-positive being sent off to quarantine camps.
People were to be isolated, given only food and some cleaning supplies. They would be banned from participating in any religious services. The plan included contingencies for preventing suicide. There were no provisions made for any legal appeals or even the right to legal counsel.
If you are on the Left, you believe in forced degrowth because of a “climate crisis.” You follow “the science” wherever it goes. You believe in censorship, and everything else that “price controls” people. A Karen on the Left ‘price controlled’ the life of Peanut the squirrel.
If you are on the Left, you are OK with the Globalist agenda of the UN, WEF, and the WHO. You are OK with tyranny being priced in to all you do.
If you are not on the Left and are an independent critical thinker and have expanded your personal bandwidth to include history, you are aware that there are those who, in the bubble of their superior intellectual, moral and humanitarian enlightenment, see themselves in a superior position to make choices for you and me. If they can elevate choices to an existential level (pandemic, climate, etc.) then they believe they have a right to do so. Tyranny will be priced in.
Will the Fed convert the U.S. Dollar to Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)? If so, it would be only a matter of time before CBDCs are linked to a global database controlled by the UN, IMF, the WHO, or God forbid, the WEF.
I write this to warn Christians about what is ahead. Stop looking for Signs of the End Times in the Mideast. Forget the “Rapture” and “Left Behind” fantasies. Get prepared for the onslaught of “price controls.” Christians will be put under immense pressure to conform to the imposed values. Know what you will do when that happens. “Rebuilding Trust” – the theme of this year’s World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos Switzerland.
The mission of the “international” WEF, as the link states, involves “public-private cooperation” by engaging “the foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas”. Sounds rather benign, so far.
To advance its “agendas”, the WEF needs the buy-in of the rich, the powerful, and the celebrated:

Leaders speaking the truth would be a great start. But someone saying “I have to invest hundreds of billions in transforming our economy” is a non-starter for the common man who is to foot the bill for WEF “agendas”. And, our well-functioning economy won’t survive DEI, Degrowth and a lot of tinkering.
What I hear this guy saying: “the common man should know how he will be exploited for the cost of future WEF projects as if he was all in in their determination.
Behind the façade of benign WEF is malign WEF. The organization that presents itself as an instrument of deliverance is actually an instrument of totalitarianism. The WEF, while working to “Rebuild Trust” amongst global stakeholders, is intent on destroying trust in anything besides itself – the elites in cahoots.
The World Economic Forum has declared that anybody who promotes a “different perception of reality” and questions the authority of “experts” should be considered “more dangerous” than a terrorist in 2024. [sounds like Dictator Biden’s J6 speech: “We must be absolutely clear about what is true and what is a lie.”]
The danger for the global elite, according to [WEF managing director Saadia] Zahidi, lies in the fact that non-authorized viewsare capable of encouraging “different perceptions of reality” which can encourage people to question whether the mainstream media and global elite are telling the truth.

“The revelation actually slipped out in October 2020 during a World Economic Forum podcast called ‘Seeking a cure for the infodemic’, although it is only going viral on Twitter today.
“In the podcast, Melissa Fleming, head of global communications for the United Nations, explains how the COVID pandemic and lockdowns created a “communications crisis” in addition to a public health emergency.
“Fleming acknowledged that in order to fight so-called “misinformation” about the pandemic, the UN tapped up 110,000 people to amplify their messaging across social media.
““So far, we’ve recruited 110,000 information volunteers, and we equip these information volunteers with the kind of knowledge about how misinformation spreads and ask them to serve as kind of ‘digital first-responders’ in those spaces where misinformation travels,” Fleming stated.
“That was nearly 2 years ago. It is not known how many ‘digital first responders’ have been recruited up to this point.”

And so it is, the WEF in concert with the UN and the WHO, mankind’s Nemesis triumvirate, will enact its inescapable ‘divine’ retribution against those committing hybris or insolence towards them. For, we are to believe, the world needs the “owners of truth” to shape global, regional and industry agendas to make them instruments of deliverance from all that ails the world, so help themselves.

Regarding the quote at the top:
The main character of Darkness at Noon, Nicholas Salmanovitch Rubashov, was at one time a “Commissar of the People” but he fell out of favor. He wasn’t discreet. He talked to his friends concerning his doubts about the effectiveness and correctness of certain Party policies. He is imprisoned and subsequently put on trial.
Rubashov is contemplating the suffering of the masses deliberately caused by the Party and its methods of control. He questions these draconian and inhumane actions because they are based only on a theoretical notion of the future. The Party thinks it can see the future it is whipping the masses toward, but in fact it can’t possibly know what future its actions will create.
The Party line is that the suffering of the masses will be compensated by future happiness. But, again, this happiness is purely notional and may never come about. Still the Party imposes pain on the people in the name of this unknown, hypothetical future.
Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 was influenced by Darkness at Noon, as Jonathon R. Eller writes in his essay The Story of Fahrenheit 451 in the 60th Anniversary Edition of the book:
Bradbury was initially inspired by Arthur Koestler’s riveting exposé of Stalin’s political terrors and finally motivated to write by the emerging climate of fear during the early years of the Cold War. His hatred of all totalitarian regimes came into sharp focus in his “Day After Tomorrow” essay, published in The Nation just as he was about to finish the final draft of Fahrenheit 451: Consider the similarity of two books—Koestler’s “Darkness at Noon,” laid in our recent past, and George Orwell’s “1984,” set in our immediate future. And here we are, poised between the two, between a dreadful reality and an unformed terror, trying to make such decisions as will avoid the tyranny of the very far right and the tyranny of the very far left, the two of which can often be seen coalescing into a tyranny pure and simple, with no qualifying adjective in front of it at all.
Seems to me, based on the suppression of dissent, the use of legal forums for political purposes – “lawfare”, and the central planning going on, that the Biden regime, the Uniparty, big tech, the WEF, the UN, and the WHO are coalescing into a tyranny pure and simple, with no qualifying adjective in front of it at all.
Biden calling Americans “extremist” for their objections to the above and to the direction their country is being taken is tyranny.
Lawfare seeking to keep Trump off the ballot and from being elected president is not “saving Democracy”. It is the opposite – tyranny.
Arresting J6ers and giving them horrific sentences and prison conditions for a made-up “insurrection” are draconian and inhumane actions. This injustice, highlighted by a J6 show trial, was meant to instill fear and to silence protest in Americans. Do not be silent about the injustice done to J6ers and the tyranny pure and simple it represents.
During COVID, voices opposing “the science” were censored. They were not to be heard. For, people were to be herded in one direction – toward big pharma.
The voice of millions was stolen during the 2020 election. For, “Democracy!” was to be herded in one direction – toward the OBiden regime and tyranny.
Isn’t ironic that while the Left is subverting systems of power in the name of social justice, critical race theory, and whatever so as to be liberated, they are creating a top-down monolithic power that will enslave them.
All one has to do to go along with the coalescing tyranny: remain isolated, remain silent and remain dependent on the state media.
Not everyone is ready to turn over their lives to a totalitarian movement masking itself as an instrument of deliverance from inequality, poverty, sickness, and manufactured crises, e.g., “the climate crisis”.

Struggle sessions or denunciation rallies were violent public spectacles in Maoist China where people accused of being “class enemies” were publicly humiliated, accused, beaten and tortured by people with whom they were close. This is at least my third alarm about what is coming to our shores to destroy life as we know it. Globalist overlords are intent on redistributing money, resources, and control to themselves. They use highfalutin sales rhetoric from “ESG” to “stakeholder capitalism” to “conscientious capitalism.” But all the gibberish, for those of us not in the globalist “club”, leads to “You’ll own nothing and be happy.”
Globalist overlords are intent on using every world crisis they create (pandemics and Climate Change) to “reset” the lives of people to their own vagary. They act to crush our wills and claim our children. They tell us what to think and do from sun up to sundown, everything from “Cut carbon” to “No stone-fired pizza” to “Eat bugs” to “You’ll own nothing and be happy.” And yet most Americans love their trucks, their home, and eating real meat. Most Americans have faith in God, but the intelligentsia, aka politically connected radical socialist atheists, want nothing to do with God in any form or fashion including “In God We Trust” America.
The destruction of our lives and all we hold dear is their creative inclination. The suits acting to “reset” our lives act in line with what Mikhail Bakunin, revolutionary socialist, social anarchist, and collectivist anarchist once said:
“The urge to destroy is also a creative urge.”
And they will creatively destroy quietly. Consider that with digital technology, no one has to be sent to a gulag or shot for not going the way of the tyrants. None of that KGB stuff needs to happen as was done in the past. Except for some public figures, there will be none of that public messy stuff that would make globalists look like Stalinists. Digital technology will do all the dirty work. Your digital device will be a KGB agent looking in on you.
Digital governance will decide if one eats, travels and leaves their home. So, when people are deprived of liberty, of choice, of movement and of hope, they will go mad. They can then be institutionalized if they don’t commit suicide first. Like Pontius Pilate, globalists can then wash their hands of the matter.
If you still doubt the extremes to which a global biotech surveillance state will deal with you, then recall the authoritarian-directed days of COVID. And look now at the two-tier system of justice under the Biden regime’s DOJ and Merrick Garland. And look at how J6 political prisoners are being treated. Each example brought together is but a small preview of what digital global governance will become.

If you have watched “Project Runway” then you’ve seen a small elite group of fashionistas evaluating who’s in and who’s out based on which design and designer aligns with their values. A runway is used to showcase contestant’s designs, designs created within a strict set of rules and with a limited budget and time. When I recently reviewed environmental, social, and governance (ESG) scoring, the above saying and Lifetime’s design competition came to mind – as Project ESG.
Project ESG contestants are scored by select groups as to whether their organization operates within a strict set of guidelines that align with their values. Project ESG also has runways: main street and financial statements.
“Project Runway” contestants are scored based on their creative flair, good structuring, demonstrating diversity in design skills, and the sustainability of their designs -conforming to, attuned to, or characterized by the latest trends in fashion.
How Project ESG Contestants are Scored
“Environmental, social, and governance, or ESG, is a type of financial investing where factors beyond financial considerations are considered. Companies are scored by fund managers based on varying, and undefined factors.
The environmental perspective includes anything that contributes to carbon emissions and climate change, such as energy, water, and waste management, ventilation/air quality, materials sourcing and management, and supply chain management.
The social perspective addresses the relationships and reputation a company has with its stakeholders, such as employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, human rights and community relations, and labor practices.
The governance perspective is the internal system of practices, controls, and procedures that a company uses to govern/manage itself, such as business model resilience, risk management, legal and regulatory compliance, due diligence, and meeting external stakeholders’ needs.”
“A credit score communicates a consumer’s ability to pay back debt. A bond rating provides context for an issuer’s ability to meet financial commitments and avoid default. Similarly, an ESG risk score gauges a company’s performance on ESG issues and exposure to ESG-related risks. They are calculated against a set of ESG metrics and may be expressed on a number scale or through a letter ranking system. . . (Emphasis mine.)
ESG contestants are scored on ESG issues which span everything from cybersecurity to climate change to diversity, equity, and inclusion . . .
Organizations with a good ESG score are thought to be better equipped to anticipate future risks and opportunities, more inclined to longer-term strategic thinking and to prioritize long-term value creation over short-term gains. As such, the consequences of a substandard score can be momentous.”

Project ESG Scorekeepers
An industry of ESG “raters” has sprung up to rate companies’ Project ESG bona fides.
“Producers of ESG scores are varied, just as the types of ESG scores are. Nevertheless, we can categorize them based on the nature of their organization:
-NGOs. Carbon Disclosure Project is an example of an NGO that produces ESG scores.
-Financial services firms. Bloomberg, MSCI, FTSE Russell and S&P Global are examples of financial services firms that publish ESG scores.
Companies have also started producing ESG scorecards for themselves.”

“The plummeting sales for Anheuser-Busch and the roughly $10 billion hit to Target’s market cap in over a week weren’t enough to dissuade Kohl’s from fulfilling its environmental, social and governance (ESG) score goals.”
As mentioned above, Project ESG scoring occurs when the contestant’s designs walk the runway. Showcasing LGBTQ+ deisgns on the main street runway is one in-your-face way to improve a Project ESG score. The bulk of Project ESG’s points, located on financial statements, are noticed by accountants and the suppliers of capital, loans and credit lines, i.e., Big Banks.
If you offer your company’s stock publicly you are impacted by accounting standards. The SEC directs that your financial statements reflect ESG disclosures to investors and the capital markets, including climate-related disclosures of climate risks among other risks.
Propelled by the planetary emergency and the drive for transparency, global sustainability reporting standards and ESG disclosure regulations are coming. Boards and C-suites should prepare now, and could find new opportunities to create value.
Why oppose Project ESG when environmentalism, climate change, and social justice are some of the criteria on which a judgment can be made on a corporation contestant?
Why oppose Project ESG when it’s said to foster in its contestants an increasing focus on corporate purpose, accountability and operational resilience and strengthens environmental, social and governance?
Why oppose Project ESG when it’s not a competition platform but rather a platform where contestants are eliminated based on “progressive” challenges posed to them?
“At its core, ESG is a social credit scoring system that ideologically aligned elites and subservient bureaucratic authorities have developed to “reset” the global financial system to their advantage, fundamentally transforming society in the process. This is accomplished by altering traditional frameworks of evaluating businesses and assessing investment risk.
“Rather than determining the creditworthiness and value of a business or industry based upon objective measures such as profit, return on investment, consumer demand, and other material performance measures, ESG’s architects seek to judge entities based upon subjective and difficult to quantify social and environmental goals. These objectives typically have little or nothing to do with business success in the marketplace based on consumer demand expressed through their purchases.” (Emphasis mine.)
And, with regard to his well-researched paper documenting ESG’s becoming “one of the gravest threats facing the free societies of the world today.”, Jack McPherrin writes
“ESG is an insidious threat to individual freedom and economic progress, as this important paper explains. ESG efforts threaten everyone’s retirement, their ability to obtain and maintain credit, and even to have bank accounts and do business with banks.A cabal of political and financial elites are using social credit scoring in the form of ESG to enforce docile acceptance of the progressive social and economic goals they favor.” (Emphasis mine.)
One major aspect of Project ESG program that has driven many away is the matter of return on investment (ROI). Investors want a positive return from their shareholdings and not losses, e.g. KSS, TGT, BUD, produced by highly subjective elements that Project ESG scoring dictates. Investors have placed their capital into a corporation to grow their investment and not for drama and virtue signaling.
If a corporation’s CEO, CFO, COO, CIO or another suit wants to donate a portion of their huge salary to some social cause they are free to do so. They are not free to do so with my shares. They should not buy carbon offsets with my investment dollars. When I sell my shares, I will use the profit to support my social values.
I’ve told the portfolio manager overseeing my retirement funds that I do not want any of my funds invested in ESG companies. “Don’t ESG on me,” I said. She responded by saying that many of her clients have said the same thing.
The same objection to Project ESG applies for public and pension funds. Find out where your state is with ESG. Your state can impose an ESG Insurance Shareholder Restriction:
A bill to prohibit insurers or holding companies organized under state law from including ESG proposals in a proxy statement or implementing an ESG shareholder proposal.
Other aspects of Project ESG, beyond financial considerations, are being rejected:
“Nearly every ESG system includes three primary themes: climate change mitigation and associated climate and environmental goals and actions; promoting social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives; and reforming corporate governance. Project ESG elites talk of stakeholders (designers) finding new opportunities to create value. The values to be created are Project ESG elite values. But I do not share those values.
I reject the notion that there is a climate change crisis. See previous posts for more.
I reject the trendy “value” of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) over the classic value of merit. I value honesty, trustworthiness, compassion, decency, respect for life, good environmental stewardship, taking responsibility for one’s behavior. Fulfilling quotas on company boards doesn’t add value to the company, the consumer or the stockholder. Fulfilling quotas only adds Project ESG points. (Note: Kamala Harris was a DEI pick for U.S. VP. Do you see any value in the pick?)
I reject Project ESG’s corporatist government design as the means to bring about the common good. Free market capitalism with individuals freely making tradeoffs works toward a common good.
I reject Project ESG’s social engineering by elite design checklists.
I reject Project ESG’s design authority – globalist dominionism that assumes positions of power and influence over all aspects of society and government that will produce a global serfdom heavily reliant on Big Brother’s social credit scoring.
I reject the basis of Project ESG’s evaluations: scientism and scientific socialism. I remind you that scientism is “the opinion that science and the scientific method are the best or only way to render truth about the world and reality”. Scientific socialism is Marxian socialism made more rigid and deterministic by Friedrich Engels. I reject social engineering and the mechanistic determinism that eliminates human contingency.
I thereby reject the notion that only physical matter and its motions are real and that everything—nature, history, even human thought—is reducible to matter moving in accordance with the same timeless “iron laws” of motion.
I reject utopian socialism.
I reject Project ESG’s dictatorial control of life’s designs. I reject severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition. Life is more than a checklist, more than a deterministic program designed to produce certain outcomes. I reject fascism.
Why do we need Project ESG? For the drama of who’s in and who’s out? To market the ideology of having wealth, power, and influence become increasingly concentrated in the hands of a select few oligarchic individuals and institutions promoting ESG and their new economic ideology of “stakeholder capitalism”?
What’s the rush to change the world? Why is there a hue and cry and John Kerry’s nasally nostrums about “fixing the climate” now? Because a few people say we need to “act now!” and their demands are constantly repeated on state media? There is no climate crisis but there certainly is a concerted effort being made by elites to change the social climate via a Great Reset. (See previous posts for more.)
Why a Black Mirror approach of unending pursuit of scientific and technological advancement?
Why do we need to change what is working? And there is much that is working. Capitalism works. Nuclear energy works. Traditional marriage and the nuclear family works. We notice the loss when what works is sidelined and corrupted by social planners who tell us there’s a better way.
And, what about Chesterton’s fence, the principle that you don’t destroy what you don’t understand. Reforms should not be made until the reasoning behind the existing state of affairs is understood. (See below for more.) One should not be rewiring society without a knowledge of history and of what circuitry works.
And there’s this: without God, the world looks to itself for a moral compass, hence Project ESG. Elites consider those under them to be lost sheep designers who need a global shepherd to direct them.
Without God, humans look to the world for drama to give meaning to their life. Many people rely on the media and social media to give meaning to their nihilistic existence. Hence, increasing paganism.
Without God, humans look to the world for identity and affirmation. Hence the vitriol and rage when gays, trannies, drag queens, and the like are not affirmed in every conversation. Project ESG makes sure that narcissism is affirmed with its DEI metrics.
Without God, Project ESG and the Great Reset look like paths forward for humanity when in reality they are paths toward the subjugation of humans under totalitarianism. The murderous history of totalitarianism will repeat itself if the elites have their way.
Project ESG judges believe they own the future and not just their future, your future. They believe they can fashion the future by refashioning you.
Like Project Runway, Project ESG is a game show with a few elitist judges determining whether you are worthy to be involved in their world. Contestants will learn whether Big banks find them Project ESG worthy of capital to survive.

We are the unhealthiest population of all time. Here’s why.
1. Industrial seed oils replacing real animal and fruit fats (tallow, suet, lard, butter, ghee, olive, coconut, avocado) as the primary fat used in 99.9% of store-bought and restaurant food products.
2. Vaccines convincing the public that herd immunity was conferred by mass vaccination instead of natural immunity in the backdrop of proliferating global disease spurred on by the industrialization and travel (globalization) of the 21st century.
3. Environmental and food estrogens (xenoestrogens, phytoestrogens) entering the human population through water (birth control), clothing (polyester, etc), and food derivatives (unfermented soybean products like oils, fillers, and mylks).
4. Social engineering promulgated by governments and the ruling class in order to condition the world to globohomo: a flat, homogeneous, global serfdom heavily reliant on big government and fully prepared for a massively consolidated western corporatist government.

By now, June 2023, you are used to tamper-proof and tamper-resistant packaging making packaging physically harder to open. Current regulations require that all OTC human drug products be packaged in tamper-resistant packaging. Requirements of the tamper-resistant packaging (TRP) regulations covering most OTC products were published by FDA in the FEDERAL REGISTER of November 5, 1982.
“A tamper-evident package is one having one or more indicators or barriers to entry which, if breached or missing, can reasonably be expected to provide visible evidence to consumers that tampering has occurred.”
If you have children, you are also aware that . . .

“Barriers to entry” promote product safety, i.e., no disastrous events, and the integrity of the product, i.e., quality control.
In 2021 there was a crisis. Depraved madmen began lacing humans with mRNA-altering-aborted-fetal-cell permeated vaccines. Tampering with human subjects had occurred.

The Biden regime mandated the COVID-19 vaccination tampering for a large swath of the American workforce who told to take the jab or wear a mask and be continually tested. If you were in the military, you were told to take the jab or be relieved from duty. Religious exemptions were not allowed.
(In 2021 I worked for a major engineering company that was a federal contractor. The Biden regime mandated via OSHA that any federal contractor with over 100 employees had to impose the jab on their employees or make them wear a mask and be continually tested. I put in a religious exemption. I would not take the jab or wear a mask or be tested. I didn’t want to be tampered with. My company wisely allowed me and others to work from home.)

A short time ago I came upon a social media post by someone with an “atheist” handle. He put out an unexpected terse comment in a thread about space science. It was meant to mock Christians: “Christians pray to man-made gods”. So, I responded.
His defense of such a claim and against the scientific claims I had made toward evidence of a creator, which included fine-tuning and the anthropic principle, was based on quotes from his man-made gods: Neil deGrasse Tyson and Sam Harris. He ended our back and forth with a dismissive comment.
I relate this to show that scientism – “the opinion that science and the scientific methodare the best or only way to render truth about the world and reality” (Wikipedia) – has become the defense strategy in cosmic trials deciding “What is true and who says so”. A recent cosmic trial involving the COVID, nee influenza, pandemic, saw the scientism strategy used to defend the criminal takeover of humanity with its appropriation of “What is true and who says so”.
A man who declared “I am the science” – Anthony Fauci – was the star witness for the defense. On the stand Fauci said “The science” was behind everything he said and did. And that’s why he was “calling the shots” about how COVID should be handled. And though substantive claims had been brought against the “The science” triggering a trial, unprecedented action by the court prohibited witnesses for the other side to take the stand to support their claims.
Extensive amounts of scientific evidence to the contrary had been blocked from the trial, including the Great Barrington Declaration. Key plaintiff witnesses, including medical doctors and pathologists, who would testify against the claims of “The Science” were threatened with loss of licensure and censored. Outside the courtroom they were labeled “science deniers’ and “conspiracy theorists”.
The jury wasn’t sequestered. Its members watched the mainstream media where COVID was presented 24/7 as a public health crisis and “The science” as the world’s savior. They heard that obeying “The Science” would lead to “flattening the curve”, “ending lockdowns”, and its vaccine would “stop COVID in its tracks”. Under that influence and the fear of the same repercussions the key plaintiff witnesses suffered, the jury ruled in favor of Fauci’s “The science made me do it.” They ok’d a power grab by the local, state, and federal government and the CDC, NIH, and Big Pharma.
As a result, people were told what to do with their bodies, their relationships, their social activity, their businesses, and their churches. And they were told, in essence, that science and the scientific method, in the hands of a select few, was the best or only way to render truth about the world and reality. As a result of that, power and wealth accrued for the winners of scientism’s trial.
Is there a “Climate Change Crisis” is the next cosmic trial and the outcome has already been rigged in favor of science and the scientific method in the hands of a few. Expert witness testimony opposed to the defense’s “Climate Change Crisis” propositions will not be given a hearing. The media is on the payroll of “Climate Change Crisis” defense team.
The truth about the world and reality is being altered with opposing testimony being censured and the promotion of a climate change “consensus”, a consensus that is based on crystal ball climate models generating position papers often paid for with grants that expect a certain outcome if more money is to flow. And though TV meteorologists forecast weather only 5 or 7 or 10 days out, climate activists predict apocalyptic events in terms of years. Reality is being altered with an environmental version of the Late Great Planet Earth.
With a looming “catastrophe” on the horizon, the climate cult has been hard at work making climate converts – young people who will catastrophize about a climate crisis.

You see, climate scientism is not about the climate. It is about wealth redistribution. It is about taking tax payer money and throwing it around (no doubt for a cut). Those involved will defend their actions: “The science made me do it.”

Nuclear power is a carbon-free and a safe energy source. Do you hear it promoted by climate-change activists? Consider that in order to use renewable energy to power the United States with all of the EVs being proposed, that about half the land area of the U.S. would need to be covered with solar panels, wind farms and electric grids. (The Sierra Club would love that! Not!) Nuclear plants take up small land areas and supply vast amounts of energy. See France’s nuclear program, for example.
Nuclear power can certainly arrest manmade climate change while producing huge amounts of reliable electricity. But it seems that scientism’s climate change gurus do not want the problem solved. If you walked around with a mask on as one of my neighbors did up until the NYT came out with the February article Mask Mandates Did Nothing. Will Any Lessons Be Learned? you may one of those who truly like to be dominated by someone who does your thinking for you. Based on public behavior witnessed since March 2020, there are earthlings who like this kind of commandeering of their life. And like the rest of their ilk, they want to make sure that everyone is commandeered as well. They feel safe when authoritarian rule keeps others in check. They feel safe when others are made to think like them.

Today’s ruling class, from Boston to San Diego, was formed by an educational system that exposed them to the same ideas and gave them remarkably uniform guidance, as well as tastes and habits. These amount to a social canon of judgments about good and evil, complete with secular sacred history, sins (against minorities and the environment), and saints. Using the right words and avoiding the wrong ones when referring to such matters — speaking the “in” language — serves as a badge of identity. Regardless of what business or profession they are in, their road up included government channels and government money because, as government has grown, its boundary with the rest of American life has become indistinct. Many began their careers in government and leveraged their way into the private sector. Some, e.g., Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner, never held a non-government job. Hence whether formally in government, out of it, or halfway, America’s ruling class speaks the language and has the tastes, habits, and tools of bureaucrats. It rules uneasily over the majority of Americans not oriented to government.
And so it is that we continually hear stereotypical representations of a “Climate Change Crisis”, of “Trust the Science”, of “Critical Race Theory”, of “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion”, of “LGBTQ+ advocacy”, of “Environmental Justice”, and of a “Build Back Better” future.

And so it is that any questioning of the elite’s social canon of judgments is suppressed. Debate, therefore, is out of the question and “the science is settled” is the nail on argument’s coffin. Keeping people ignorant of opposing views works to produce a monoculture receptive of more reinforcing sameness.
And so it is that cultures and lifestyles (not Christian, not American) are promoted as equal. And the sexes, like our southern border with its child and drug trafficking promoted by the Biden regime, must not have a border wall.
And so it is that merchandisers communicate their moral viewpoint, aka social canon of judgments, via their products: Bud Light, Target, North Face, Harley to name a few.
And so it is that a Christian worldview must be silenced by any means necessary. The elites believe they have gained, with institutional pedigrees, esoteric knowledge of all that is. Hence the social canon of judgments (Woke doctrine) and “the science” pronouncements. They are the enlightened ones. They are the seers. And they operate with a volitional rejection and contempt for Christianity ala Nietzsche.

And so it is that elites label those who don’t embrace their Globalist/Marxist worldview as “extremists”, “threats to democracy”, and, with regard to the debt ceiling, “economic terrorists”. Their idea of democracy is a say-and-do-as-I-say monoculture. In other words, a “no dissent” Democracy.

I also see the WEF as akin to the fictional criminal enterprise Spectre).
And so it is that so-called economist Paul Krugman will produce nonsense NYT op-eds about the economy revealing that he is all in with monoculture thinking. And Democrat politicians, e.g., Marxist AOC, while defending their bizarre version of reality, will spout monoculture platitudes. And professors and school boards and teachers repeat the monoculture “in” language with the result that our children repeat the monoculture “in” language and way of thinking. Businesses are requiring training programs in mastering monoculture’s dogma of DEI. (That is one main reason I decided to retire at the end of last year.)
And so it is that CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. drone on with monoculture insipidities, as they have been taught and paid for by paying elites.

“The Mechanical Hound slept but did not sleep, lived but did not live in its gently humming, gently vibrating, softly illuminated kennel back in a dark corner of the firehouse.”

Anyone who has read Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 will remember the menacing Mechanical Hound.
In fireman Guy Montag’s world, firemen burn outlawed books and where people hid them. The firehouse ‘dog’, a robotic beast, is an enforcer for the state. If you do not follow society’s rules, the Hound is unleashed. It tracks down and kills book readers using stored information about individuals. The Hound catches its prey and then injects it with lethal drugs.
Though configured as man’s best friend, Montag finds out the true nature of the beast. Being “fascinated as always with the dead beast, the living beast,” he touches the muzzle of the Hound. The Hound growls and Montag recoils.
“The Hound half rose in its kennel and looked at him with green-blue neon light flickering in its suddenly activated eye bulbs. It growled again, a strange rasping combination of electric sizzle, a frying sound, a scraping of metal, a turning of cogs that seemed rusty and ancient with suspicion.”
Not long afterward, Montag tells Captain Beatty “It doesn’t like me.” Captain Beatty tells Montag:
“Come off it. It doesn’t like or dislike. It just `functions.’ It’s like a lesson in ballistics. It has a trajectory we decide for it. It follows through. It targets itself, homes itself, and cuts off. It’s only copper wire, storage batteries, and electricity.”
The Mechanical Hound attacks what it is programmed to attack. And when Montag becomes more and more inquisitive about books and one is found in his possession, the Hound is released to track him down.

The techno-capitalist-industrialist-open borders system that goes by “Progress” or “Development” or “the Science” or “Fair-Trade” or “Commercialization” or “Globalization” or “Open Society,” is summed into a single descriptor – “the Machine” – by Paul Kingsnorth in his book Against the Machine (See side bar, previous post, and podcasts below for more information.)
In the chapter Come the Black Ships, Kingsnorth describes the process of Machine as being
“a war against all ‘closed’ things; against limits and boundaries of any kind, cultural and ecological; against historical traditions, local economies, trade unions, national economic plans, nations themselves, tribal cultures, religions . . . anything that interferes with the path of commercial expansion and its associated culture of individualist liberalism. Open is good, closed is bad. Why? Because closed things can’t be harvested, exploited or transformed in the image of the new world which the Machine is building. ‘Open’ things, on the other hand; well, they’re easy prey.”
That is our reality today. The West has colonialized itself with what it has colonized other nations – the Machine’s promise of the “open is good” gravy train. The WEF’s mission statement cloaks the Machine in good: “We bring together government, businesses and civil society to improve the state of the world” by “seiz[ing] opportunities for positive change.”
And so it is that the Machine’s process is advertised as that which benefits humanity in various ways. These include “Enhanced Customer Experience”, “Innovation”, “Diversity”, and “Advancements in Medicine, Education, Efficiency, Productivity, and “Sustainability” all while waging “a war against all ‘closed’ things” for the sake of its commercialization, monetization, and control of the process.
For the Machine to wage “war against all ‘closed’ things”, technology is employed to sniff out and snuff out the ‘closed’ – those people and their places unwilling to “be harvested, exploited or transformed in the image of the new world.” This machine I see depicted as Bradbury’s Mechanical Hound.
The Mechanical Hound represents the perversion of technology. Man’s best friend, a creature meant for companionship, aid, and protection, is turned into a technological tool of oppression. Its purpose is to impose order with terror.
With the Mechanical Hound in mind, consider digital technology which can be seen as friendly and helpful but can been programmed to avenge and punish citizens who break society’s rules. See China’s social credit system.
With the Mechanical Hound in mind, see the UK introducing digital ID cards. The UK government claims the system will simplify access to public services such as healthcare, welfare, and childcare, reduce identity fraud, ensure that only those with the right to work can be hired and is expected to minimize identity fraud by linking personal information to a secure digital format. With all these great “benefits” (for the state), what could go wrong? Say, if someone online says something that is considered “hate speech” by the UK government will the Hound be released to track that person down? That is happening today in the UK.
See a cashless society and Central Bank digital currency (CBDC) where purchases are monitored and financial accounts controlled by the government.
See the smartphone that “slept but did not sleep, lived but did not live in its gently humming, gently vibrating, softly illuminated kennel back in a dark corner of” your pocket.
Consider the digital contraptions in your home and car that, like the Hound, can track you with information gathered from 5G towers that is downloaded to data centers that consume massive amounts of energy and water and taxpayer money – to monitor your physical and societal whereabouts so it can sell you more of the Machine’s process.
In Montag’s repressed society, books, book holders, and critical thinkers are dealt with. For books hold the experience and wisdom of ‘closed’ things – history, tradition, culture and religion – and must be done away with. And, so must thinking critically. With this in mind, consider the calls for censorship on our college campuses. In Britain you can go to jail for saying the ‘wrong’ thing.
In Montag’s repressed society, wall screens and pills replace books. The wall screens produce for Montag’s wife, Mildred, her ‘family’. Their home has three wall screens. She wants a fourth wall screen. We learn how depressing life is for Mildred when she attempts to commit suicide with an overdose.

How did we get amenable to the Machine’s control over us and thus take on a mechanized way of seeing and relating to the world? Bradbury provides insight.
Fahrenheit 451 is about more than censorship. It is about conformity to state-imposed uniformity. Books in 451 were seen as creating discord. They had to go. For, with the advent of visual media, TV in particular, people no longer read and didn’t want to hear anything but what they heard on the screens. People wanted censorship and conformity to the screens.
As Captain Beatty tells Montag,
“’The fact is we didn’t get along well until photography came into its own. Then–motion pictures in the early twentieth century. Radio. Television. Things began to have mass.’
“Montag sat in bed, not moving.
“’And because they had mass, they became simpler,” said Beatty. “Once, books appealed to a few people, here, there, everywhere. They could afford to be different. The world was roomy. But then the world got full of eyes and elbows and mouths. Double, triple, quadruple population. Films and radios, magazines, books levelled down to a sort of paste pudding norm, do you follow me?’”
“’I think so.’”
“Beatty peered at the smoke pattern he had put out on the air. ‘Picture it. Nineteenth-century man with his horses, dogs, carts, slow motion. Then, in the twentieth century, speed up your camera. Books cut shorter. Condensations, Digests. Tabloids. Everything boils down to the gag, the snap ending.”
“’Snap ending.’ Mildred nodded.”
Captain Beatty, again:
“You must understand that our civilization is so vast that we can’t have our minorities upset and stirred. Ask yourself, What do we want in this country, above all? People want to be happy, isn’t that right? Haven’t you heard it all your life? I want to be happy, people say. Well, aren’t they? Don’t we keep them moving, don’t we give them fun? That’s all we live for, isn’t it? For pleasure, for titillation? And you must admit our culture provides plenty of these.”

This our reality: the Machine and the Mechanical Hound.
Paul Kingsnorth’s Against the Machine – On the Unmaking of Humanity has provided us a prophetic understanding of where we are and where we are headed. The Machine is moving us downstream, displacing us from what we value – in Kingsnorth’s words “the past, people, place, and prayer.”
Various entities participate and promote the Machine.
Mainstream media is run by the Machine. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, WSJ, NYT, WaPo and other outlets are the Machine’s mouthpieces. They talk down the “closed” and proclaim the “open.”
Both political parties promote the Machine. It is “progress” (and control) after all. The biggest threat to democracy is the Machine that consumes culture and churns out cogs.
Now that Mamdani has won the NYC mayor’s race, you can be sure that the Mechanical Hound will be released in NYC to enforce socialist jihad. Neither socialism nor Jihad exists without a Mechanical Hound.
Central planners – The World Economic Forum (WEF), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Trade Organization – represent the Machine’s values.
It takes no stretch of the imagination to see ourselves in Montag’s society or to see technology as that which mimics the good but is easily programmed to avenge and punish citizens who break society’s rules. The Mechanical Hound can tract us down to dispose of the ‘closed’ and conform us to the “Open is good” of the Machine.
Bradbury said that with Fahrenheit 451 he wasn’t trying to predict the future but to prevent it. He wanted to protect the present.
The terror of the Hound of Hell is becoming a permanent feature of the “open” (closing up) brave new (upside down) world.

Five years ago, Peter Thiel, the billionaire venture capitalist behind PayPal and Palantir, sent a prescient email to Facebook executives.
“When 70% of millennials say they are pro-socialist,” he wrote, “we need to do better than simply dismiss them by saying that they are stupid or entitled or brainwashed; we should try and understand why.”

In a world where AI keeps creeping in on uniquely human territory by composing sonnets, writing songs or forging friendships, this seemed to be crossing a new Rubicon. Depending on your belief system, AI was doing what evolution, or God, or scientists working with genome-engineering tools aim to do.
